Also known as Necho... he was Pharaoh early in the reign of Nebuchadrezzar II of Babylon, and the two had a few skirmishes. Quite helpfully, there is a Wikipedia page. Two of the more ambitious projects he funded: A canal joining the Red Sea to the Mediterranean Sea (just about where the Suez Canal is now)... he got partway there. The first reported circumnavigation of Africa... this was something Herodotus didn't believe when he heard.
